General Information
West Lothian Writers is a local writing group which hopes to promote writing in West Lothian. The group meets every fortnight to share work, news and ideas with others.
The group was formed in 2001 by the poet Magi Gibson who acted as the group’s tutor for many years. Originally the group only met during term time, however, for the past year we have successfully held meetings all year round and plan to continue doing this in the future.
The group is open to anyone who lives or works in West Lothian and is aged from 15+. This age limit is not strictly controlled but any new members must be aware that members may choose to share work of an adult nature with the rest of the group.
A Typical Meeting
Here’s a brief description of what happens during a typical meeting:
Members will bring about 8 copies of a piece of work they wish to share with the group and hand these out to each member present. They will then read out their work before the group will discuss it, making comments and suggestions. All pieces of work are handed back to their writer at the end of the discussion, unless verbal permission is given for members to keep a copy.
The first meeting you attend is free and after that meetings cost £2 (£1 consession). There is also a £5 membership fee if you decide to become a member.
Our Constitution
The group is governed by our constitution, a copy of which can be found here.
